Welcome to The Quad News, the independent voice of Quinnipiac.
The Quad News is a completely independent online newspaper that was created by Quinnipiac students for Quinnipiac students. Its goal is to bring together members of the Quinnipiac community who share a common interest in the free flow of information on campus, who believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The Quad News has no official ties with the university itself except that it will be covering the campus on a daily basis.
Over the summer, members of The Quad News editorial board outlined the structure for the online publication and set up a business plan for becoming a corporation.
The structure of the website will include constantly updated and live breaking news stories and Quinnipiac Bobcats' game updates, and story topics similar to those that have previously appeared in The Chronicle once a week.
The Quad News was born after all applicants for the 2008-2009 Editorial Board of The Chronicle withdrew their applications this past April. After it was learned from the administration that there would be significant structural changes to The Chronicle in the future, coupled with previous decisions made by the administration regarding the content of their newspaper and the future of their newspaper, the decision was made among those students to begin an independently funded medium.
Although most of The Quad News editorial staff consists of former Chronicle editorial staff members, our newspaper is not The Chronicle and has no connection to The Chronicle.
The administration of Quinnipiac will continue the publication of their newspaper, and The Quad News supports the decision in the name of friendly competition. Even if one newspaper is independent of the university and one is owned and under the supervision of the university, the fact that two publications may cover the same stories on campus can only improve the journalism on both sides.
I have complete confidence in The Quad News staff experience and skill-set, however we are all new at beginning a newspaper from the ground-up.
And with that in mind we ask for your patience as we enter this new world of independence. It's our hope that you lend us your feedback as we adventure into the semester and beyond.
Without you, the readers, there is no Quad News. Thank you for your support and happy reading. Let the tradition begin.
Sincerely,
Jason Braff Editor in Chief The Quad News
