The sultry sound of music filled Buckman Theater on April 22 as students, faculty and guests were serenaded by the QU Singers and QU Jazz Ensemble.
The Jazz Ensemble provided entertainment outside Buckman Theater prior to the beginning of the show. Although the crowd was small, the large sound filled the entrance and the ears of those listening.
The ensemble is made up of Quinnipiac students and adult musicians from the Greater Hamden area. The ensemble was directed by Peter McEachern who also accompanied the group on trombone.
Following the QU Jazz Ensemble, QU Singers took to the stage. The group, which consisted of almost 60 people, performed to a packed theater, and was directed by Professor Fred Rossomando. QU Singers performed seven songs including “One” from “Chorus Line” and “Ease On Down the Road” from “The Wiz”
Musical accompaniment was provided by Rossomando’s daughter and son-in-law as well as others. Rossomando also made sure to give recognition to his wife for creating a ceramic drum used during several songs.
The show ended with enthusiastic applause and a standing ovation from the audience. Seniors were kindly asked to come down from their respective spots on the risers and were given flowers.
The night would not have been complete, however, without the kind words of two graduating students as they presented Rossomando with his own bouquet of flowers and tickets to a performance to thank him for everything he has done.
Before the final number Rossomando asked for donations to Horns for Kids, a cause he and his wife hold close to their hearts. This non-profit organization gives musical instruments to students in need. The Rossomandos have collected over 400 instruments to date and have received major donations from the Ronald McDonald House.
