Victoria, Great column, great photo, --but you really know how to hurt a guy: "I didn’t care about ... the amazing Journalism professors." Say it ain't so! (I know, you were just being a facetious-ista!) Enjoy your summer! KV
To be honest I enjoy watching and playing volleyball, but I have never even went to a game through the two years so far because whenever I see the scores I am just uninterested in going. Although I am glad that people are standing up against administration for the cuts, I would have rathered seen volleyball go than the rest of the mens track. In regards to Title IX, I think it should be removed. It was created so women could get equality in sports, however, now it appears to be doing more harm than good. Teams are either accepting more players than they need, or have to have a team of less than they would like to adhere to Title IX. Title IX is working in reverse instead of helping, it is now hurting teams. Also, if Title IX says that the school has to "meet the interests of the underrepresented group" then shouldn't they have to meet the interests of the male athletes on campus and not the women's volleyball team? Also, one of the ways to avoid being in violation of Title IX is to upgrade a sport to varsity level or something like that. Isn't that what they are doing with cheerleading?Overall Title IX is doing more harm than good. If both sports can't stay then volleyball should go. I have heard more support from other schools for the mens track team, but nothing for women's volleyball. Coincidence? I think not.
What really sucks is when you are giving a tour and all you get is blank stares and when you get asked questions nobody says anything. Those suck because now you just have to think what can I say next rather than being able to use a parents question to talk about a topic. And finding rooms was always a pain I even had trouble once just getting into one of the buildings.
