Louis Vuitton

What's old is new again. The fall/winter 2010 runway shows were all about bringing back the 1950's style of circle skirts and fur-collared sweaters, adorned with poodles. The top fashion houses, including Louis Vuitton, Prada and Marc Jacobs, all dressed their models in one of this season's top trends. But not only were the runways full of voluminous dresses and pretty tops, but also cute handbags and killer pumps.

Louis Vuitton led the fashionable pack with ultra-poufy skirts and tight-corseted floral tops. The design house also showed cream-colored sweaters, a perfect palette for subtle glamour. A cute fur-collared sweater printed with a whimsical black poodle added a fun vibe to the collection as well. Not forgetting the accessories, Vuitton paired the outfits with classic purses with a modern twist, by adding crocodile and silk lace to the bag. The luxury label also showed black pumps, complete with a heel shaped as lipstick. The look was reminiscent of the bold red lip worn by women of the 1950s.

Prada was also the epitome of 1950s style with their voluminous printed satin dresses. The gorgeous models were dressed nothing short of 50s housewives.

Nina Ricci also showed high-waist pencil skirts, and to add a burst of color to the ensemble, Ricci chose a vivacious red corset top.

Marc Jacobs's models were dressed in wool skirts and wool two-button jackets, and sweet heels, paired with black DKNY socks, all for a demure, yet refined appearance.

Dolce Gabbana brought the sex appeal with leopard and polka dot printed skirts and tops. These models looked like "stepford wife" vixens.

Rachel Comey chose the conservative route, pairing a pencil skirt with a white-button down and black sweater, one which looked like it came straight from a grandfather's closet.

Acne completed their models' looks with real and faux fur. Alberta Ferretti and Altuzarra also included fur in their ensembles. Fur has become a staple on the runways this season, adding a luxurious and glamorous touch to any outfit.

Many designers this fall really seemed to work the 1950s look into their collection, but will the mainstream accept it?

Sarah Beyel, a senior public relations major, says she is looking forward to seeing these classic looks come back.

"The women in the 1950s were the epitome of style, they always looked so put together. It's pretty refreshing seeing the models fully dressed and conservative, instead of being in a state of half-dress," Beyel said.

"I understand that the designers are bringing back the look, but I'm not sure real women will follow it. It looks great on the runway. The models were really put together," said Michelle Cummins, a senior political science major. "But, I think mainstream stores will create adaptations of this look, and create it so the average woman can not only afford the look, but have it fit into the rest of their wardrobe."
