1. The Tim Burton Exhibit at the MoMA (NYC)
*Until April 26, 2010

This exhibit is a must-see, whether you're a fan of Burton’s work or not. After the holidays, I strolled by hoping to pop in and see it – FAIL. There are lines of people waiting daily! The exhibit has everything from sketches to clay character prototypes, and even parts of Burton’s sets. Make a day of it, and check out the film exhibitions as well.

Tip: Utilize your QU ID for a $12 ticket. Be sure to order your ticket online before you go at www.MoMA.org to ensure it doesn’t sell out.

The MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) is on West 53rd Street right by all the great fashion stores on 5th Avenue, so you could even do some window-shopping while you're out there! My personal favorite restaurant, China Grill, is across the way (it’s pretty pricy, but it’s a great Asian fusion place!).

2. Rock Climbing

Most local gyms offer rock climbing sessions. This can be a fun way to get some exercise and pull away from the mundane cardio machines. A lot of cruise ships use rock climbing as an activity for passengers, so why not try it out on land while you have the chance? Bring a friend, or go enjoy the climb solo.

Pricing varies per gym and geographical location. Contact your local YMCA or Gym Facility for details!

3. Spring Cleaning

Take a look at your room at home or even your apartment or dorm at QU. Does it need a little freshening up? A great way to finish the year off with flying colors is to give your own space a make over. Whether you're moving back home for the summer (or for good), or you're at your place in Hamden wondering why you're so bogged down and how all that garbage under your bed has accumulated, Spring Cleaning 2010 is the way to go. Make a great mix CD or iTunes playlist for your cleaning marathon, grab a Venti Latte from Starbucks, and HGTV your life!

4. Hobby Time!

Why don't you finally learn that hobby you've always been interested in? YouTube has tons of tutorials if you're looking for a skilled hobby. If not, head over to your local craft store, and browse around for ideas and supplies. Is a friend's birthday coming up? Grab some fun supplies and make a gift by hand! It's often cheaper and means so much more. A collage or a custom picture frame are great gift options!

Prices and locations vary. Check out your local yellow pages or Google!

5. Alice in Wonderland in IMAX 3-D

Don't be late for this very important date! Continue your Tim Burton fix with one of the most anticipated films of the year. You won’t want to be left out of this imagination-exploring overload, coming out on March 5 in IMAX 3-D. Based mainly on the novel by Lewis Caroll (not like Disney’s 1951 version), this film will take you down the rabbit hole, through the looking glass and back to reality again. With the extreme use of CGI and special effects, seeing this in IMAX 3-D will blow you away!

You may have to hunt a little to find a theater, but ticket prices are usually $15-17.

6. Laser Tag

Even if you only have one friend home with you this spring break, you can go to your local arcade/indoor activity center to play laser tag on a team or with just the two of you. Prices are usually fairly cheap, and this is a great way to get together with your friends from home after a two-month hiatus. Afterwards, grab some dinner and catch up and discuss the best and worst of the game!

Prices vary and so do locations. Just do a quick Google search for more info!

7. Donate to Charity

Whether you donate to your local Red Cross, food bank or Goodwill, giving back is always a great way to spend a day or two. Go through your closet, and get rid of those clothes you don't wear anymore or that don't fit, or even take some unwanted canned goods over to a food bank. Anything you can do to help your local community will be appreciated.

8. Vineyard Tour/Wine Tasting

So you're not going away for your senior (or junior) spring break…never fear! You can still have a fun time and enjoy some fine wines. Since you've only been 21 for a few months or so, why not learn a little about wine? (It is time to think outside the box…of Franzia.) Our generation is a big up-and-comer in the world of wines. Take advantage of this by trying some new wines and bonding with your parents or friends. Be sure to either have a taxi or a DD waiting. Spring break is all about fun AND safety!

Most places selling wine will be able to tell you where the closest vineyard is!

9. Purses & Pearls at the Four Seasons (Boston)
*March 6, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This event is for all those fashionable ladies out there. At this event, ladies (gents you're welcome too) can enjoy some tea, finger food and shopping. The event offers cupcake decorating stations for the wee ones, and artisan booths and auctions for the big kids featuring autographed celebrity purses. All proceeds benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation for seriously ill children and their supportive families.

This event is located at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. Event ticket prices are students $35, adults $55, and children $25.

10. Get Local!

Grab your morning newspaper and see what's happening in your town. Chances are, you've been away at school for the last few months and are a little out of the loop, but never fear – your local newspaper usually offers fun activities, upcoming concerts or exhibits, and even sales at local stores. Save your gas money and check out what’s new in YOUR town!
