Peter Moran, a Quinnipiac freshman from Parlin, N.J., was arrested on Feb. 19 by the Hamden Police Department, and was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Moran could be facing serious consequences for these charges. Although he was in possession of a little more than two ounces, and possession is only considered punishable if it is four ounces or more, paraphernalia possession within 1,500 feet of a school is a felony in Connecticut, with a possible one year incarceration period.

Moran was released on a Written Promise to Appear, and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 9. He has since been suspended from the university.

“The student has been suspended from the university pending the outcome of his disciplinary hearing,” John Morgan, associate vice president for public relations, said in an email.

Hall mates of Moran, who was living in the Irmagarde Tator Residence Hall prior to his suspension, described him as a quiet, nice kid who often kept to himself.

“He seemed pretty cool, a nice kid. He was really quiet, but we played intramural soccer together,” Nick Needle, a freshman political science major, said.

Moran was unavailable for comment on the matter.
