As with every spring semester, the anticipation has been building on campus as to who the headliner will be for the Student Programming Board’s Spring Concert.
Well the wait is over, as it was announced today that The Fray will be headlining the concert on Sunday, Apr. 18 at 7 p.m.
The Denver, Colo. based alternative rock band, is known for two U.S. Top Ten Hits, 2005’s “Over My Head (Cable Car)” and 2006’s “How to Save a Life”. According to it’s biography on iTunes, the band is popular for “pitching their music somewhere between the arena-friendly style of U2 and the mature pop/rock of bands like Maroon 5 and The Counting Crows.”
Their 2005 album “How to Save a Life”, off of which both hits came, also experienced worldwide popularity following it’s release and quick rise through the charts.
So far, reaction around campus has been positive and the anticipation for the actual concert has begun.
“I think people are really excited,” said SPB Mainstage Chair Meg Doyle. “I think a lot of people are shocked it’s [The Fray] because they are such a big name. I don’t think people expected it.”
John Stinchon, assistant director of the Carl Hansen Student Center and Student Leadership Development, said that the concert has been in the works since December.
“I’m excited about it. I think it’s probably one of the biggest names that we have brought in during my time here,” Stinchon said. “It also was exciting because we were able to bring a band that the students surveyed said they wanted.”
According to the students surveyed, The Fray was actually received the second highest percentage of votes behind jam band O.A.R. The Fray received about 40 percent of the votes.
The Fray will also be playing with two other acts, which include We Shot The Moon and a yet to be named band.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale on Mar. 22 in the Student Center.
