To the Chronicle: Thank You for Your Support

Until two weeks ago, we at the Quad News had been fighting alone for our rights as a student-run business here at Quinnipiac University. After two years of struggling against wavering administrative policies and the most recent rejection of our request for a space at the student center tables, the Quad News published an editorial making public our current treatment by the university.

For these past two years, there has also been rumored to be a public dislike between the university-sanctioned Chronicle and the Quad News. This is not the case. Though the two papers provide one another with some healthy competition, we also provide support. And as such, the Quad News would like to thank the Chronicle staff for their April 22 editorial, "Friendly Would be up in arms."

The new executive board's efforts and support for the Quad News are turning a new page in the history of journalism at Quinnipiac University. Though believed to have been at odds, it is our belief that this relationship will foster growth in journalism on campus, not erode it.

As print journalism outlets often vying to the same audience, we were able to put our differences aside and work together for journalistic freedom and equality on campus. We are both united by a common bond—journalism—and we are both willing to work to make sure that bond remains strong and healthy on campus. Contrary to what some may believe, independent journalism is not dead on campus, but instead is alive and well, as evidenced by the interests and determination of a few willing to work together.

Unity is a powerful concept, which can bring down walls, overcome oppression, and bring many different people together. Throughout history unification has always provided an answer to overcoming obstacles and challenges. It has destroyed dictatorships and brought about peace and prosperity. It is enlightening that such concepts have not been completely lost on our campus.
